Microsoft Teams to Get AI Facilitator, Several New Features Coming for In-Person Meetings and Chats: Report

According to a report, Microsoft is preparing to roll out a major update for its Teams platform. The update is expected to introduce AI-powered meeting assistance, improved chat management, and a more streamlined guest invitation system. One of the biggest highlights is the new AI Facilitator, which can detect knowledge gaps during meetings and provide participants with relevant information automatically. The update will also bring AI-generated meeting notes and new chat categories to make conversations easier to manage.

New AI Facilitator to Assist During Meetings

As per the report, Microsoft has revealed several upcoming Teams features through the Microsoft 365 Enterprise admin portal. Among them is the AI Facilitator, which is designed to analyse conversations during meetings and identify moments when participants may need additional context or clarification.

When such situations are detected, the AI can search the web for relevant information, generate helpful responses, and post them directly into the meeting chat. This allows participants to receive the information they need without interrupting the flow of the discussion.

The feature will be disabled by default. Users will also have the option to turn off all AI-powered meeting capabilities using a dedicated Meeting AI toggle. Initially, the feature will only be available to meeting organisers and participants, while guest users will not have access.

AI Meeting Notes Expanding to In-Person Teams Rooms

Microsoft is also extending its AI-generated meeting notes feature to Teams Rooms running on Windows. Until now, the feature was limited to scheduled online meetings, but it will soon support in-person meetings as well.

Using the Take Notes option, Teams will automatically generate real-time meeting summaries, capture important decisions, and create action items without requiring users to schedule a hybrid meeting in advance.

According to the report, the feature is expected to begin rolling out in August, with broader availability planned for October.

Improved Chat Management and Guest Invitations

Teams is also set to improve chat organisation by introducing two new sections: Muted and Meeting Chats. These categories will automatically organise conversations, making it easier for users to locate important messages.

In addition, Microsoft is updating its guest invitation system. Instead of sending meeting invitations from a generic no-reply email address, invitations will now be delivered directly from the meeting organiser’s email address. This change is expected to make invitations more recognisable and trustworthy. According to the report, the rollout is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
