Apple Music in iOS 27: 5 Major Upgrades That Will Enhance the iPhone Music Experience
Apple is set to introduce several new Apple Music features with the release of iOS 27 this September. The update will bring a redesigned interface, smoother song transitions, improved music discovery, and larger Home Screen widgets, making the overall listening experience more enjoyable for iPhone users.
While iOS 27 also adds new features to apps like Wallet, Calendar, Notes, and Maps, Apple Music is receiving a series of upgrades that will make the streaming service smarter, more personalized, and easier to use.
These features are already available in the iOS 27 Beta. Here’s a look at the five biggest Apple Music updates.
1. Apple Music Gets a New Landscape Mode
With iOS 27 Beta, Apple Music now supports Landscape Mode, allowing users to enjoy a redesigned interface when using their iPhone horizontally.
The feature is expected to be particularly useful on the upcoming iPhone Ultra, although it will also be available on other compatible iPhone models.
In the new layout, album artwork appears alongside playback controls, while song lyrics are displayed beside the artwork instead of taking over the entire screen. This makes it easier to follow lyrics when the iPhone is docked or charging.
2. AutoMix Delivers Even Smoother Music Transitions
Apple has further enhanced the AutoMix feature, which debuted in iOS 26.
According to the company, the updated AutoMix delivers more natural and seamless transitions between songs, creating a more immersive listening experience.
The feature is no longer limited to the iPhone. Apple is also bringing AutoMix support to HomePod and Apple TV (tvOS), enabling uninterrupted music playback across multiple Apple devices.
3. Artist Pages Receive a Fresh Visual Redesign
Apple Music’s Artist Pages have been refreshed with a cleaner and more modern design.
The new interface is inspired by the visual improvements introduced for albums and playlists in iOS 26.4.
Artist pages now feature fullscreen color backgrounds that match the artist’s header image. Apple has also reorganized key controls for easier access while giving featured songs and albums greater prominence.
4. Discover New Music with the ‘Friends’ Playlist
Apple is introducing a new automatically updated Made for You playlist called Friends.
The playlist refreshes every Thursday and highlights songs currently being played by people you follow on Apple Music.
Each song also shows which friend is listening to it, making it easier to discover new artists and tracks through your social circle.
5. Apple Music Gets Extra-Large Widgets
With iOS 27, Apple is introducing Extra-Large Home Screen Widgets, and Apple Music is among the first apps to support the new widget size.
Users will be able to add larger versions of the following widgets to the Home Screen or Today View:
- Recently Played
- Recommendations
- Top Charts
These larger widgets display more information at a glance, allowing users to quickly resume their favorite songs or discover new music without opening the Apple Music app.
Apple Music will continue to be available as a standalone subscription service, and it will also remain part of the Apple One bundle, giving users multiple subscription options based on their needs.
