‘The Odyssey’ Expected to Make a Strong Start at the Indian Box Office, Eyes ₹22 Crore Opening Day and ₹75 Crore Opening Weekend
Acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated movie The Odyssey is set to arrive in theatres this Friday. Featuring an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, and Zendaya, the IMAX epic has generated tremendous excitement across the globe. In India, where Nolan enjoys a massive fan following, the film has already witnessed an impressive response through advance bookings.
Advance Bookings Cross ₹18 Crore
Even before its theatrical release, The Odyssey has built strong momentum at the Indian box office. According to trade reports, the film has already sold nearly ₹18 crore worth of tickets for its first three days in India.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala believes that, based on the current booking trend, the film is likely to earn ₹18 crore to ₹22 crore net on its opening day. If the positive momentum continues, its opening weekend collection is expected to reach between ₹65 crore and ₹75 crore net.
Huge Demand for IMAX Screenings
The Odyssey has already created history by becoming the first feature film in the world to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras. This achievement has significantly boosted demand for its IMAX screenings.
Premium IMAX tickets are selling at record prices across major Indian cities. In Delhi-NCR, IMAX shows begin as early as 6:30 AM, with ticket prices reaching ₹2,500. In Mumbai, premium IMAX tickets have climbed to ₹3,100, while Bengaluru has tickets priced at ₹1,850. Chennai, however, remains comparatively affordable, with IMAX tickets starting at ₹508.
Mumbai Hosts the Film’s First Public Screening
Ahead of its worldwide release, Christopher Nolan visited Mumbai as part of the film’s global promotional campaign. He was accompanied by his wife and longtime producing partner Emma Thomas, along with actors Tom Holland and Matt Damon.
A special screening of the film was held at the IMAX Theatre in Lower Parel, Mumbai, marking The Odyssey’s first public screening anywhere in the world.
Addressing the audience after the screening, Nolan said that although he had visited Mumbai before, this was the first time he had premiered one of his films in India. He added that the audience present at the event was among the first in the world to watch The Odyssey.
