Ranbir Kapoor and Yash shared several exciting updates about their much-awaited film Ramayana during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra also joined the special panel discussion. While fans were eagerly waiting for the film’s trailer launch, the makers announced that its release has been postponed following a new international distribution agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Ramayana Trailer Release Rescheduled After Sony Pictures Partnership
The Ramayana trailer was originally scheduled for a worldwide release on July 24, shortly after the Comic-Con panel. However, producer Namit Malhotra announced through an Instagram post that the trailer would no longer be released on the planned date.
He explained that the partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment marks a major milestone in bringing Ramayana to audiences across the globe. As a result, the team has decided to unveil the trailer worldwide at a later date.
Sony Pictures Entertainment will now oversee the film’s international distribution.
Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up About Playing Lord Rama
Speaking at Comic-Con, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that his first reaction after being offered the role of Lord Rama was fear and self-doubt.
He admitted that he initially questioned whether he was capable of doing justice to one of the most respected and revered figures in Indian culture. Over time, however, those fears turned into gratitude as he realized it was one of the biggest opportunities of his career.
Ranbir said portraying Lord Rama is much more than simply playing a character. He described it as a huge responsibility because Lord Rama has inspired millions of people for generations with values such as courage, compassion, righteousness, forgiveness, and resilience.
He further explained that the role demanded unwavering faith, honesty, and pure intentions. According to Ranbir, the entire cast and crew shared one goal—to present the story of Ramayana as authentically and respectfully as possible.
Raha Kapoor Will Watch Ramayana as Her First Film in Theatres
During an interaction with fans, Ranbir Kapoor also spoke about his daughter Raha Kapoor.
He said he is especially excited about the film’s release because Ramayana will be the first movie Raha watches on the big screen. Ranbir added that he is eagerly looking forward to sharing the theatrical experience with his daughter.
Yash Praises Ranbir Kapoor
Yash, who plays Ravana in the film, praised Ranbir Kapoor’s dedication to portraying Lord Rama.
He said no actor can truly claim to be worthy of playing such an iconic and revered character. According to Yash, Ranbir’s humility itself reflects the respect he has for the role. He also applauded Ranbir’s hard work, commitment, and sincerity.
Yash’s Preparation for the Role of Ravana
Talking about his own character, Yash said he wanted to understand Ravana not just as a legendary villain but as a complex human being.
He explained that Ravana remains one of the most iconic figures in Indian mythology because he genuinely believed he was right. According to Yash, the most compelling villains are those who are convinced that their actions are justified.
Yash said his goal was to make Ravana feel more human and relatable, allowing audiences to understand his emotions and mindset instead of seeing him only as a mythical antagonist.
He added that while the physical transformation was important, understanding Ravana’s psychology was the real challenge. According to him, actors must set aside their own beliefs and fully embrace the perspective of the character they portray.
Yash also noted that everyone considers themselves the hero of their own story, and exploring Ravana’s immense ego and ambition became one of the most fascinating aspects of preparing for the role.
He concluded by assuring fans that the entire team has stayed true to the spirit of Ramayana and has made an honest and respectful effort to bring the epic to life.

Shot entirely for IMAX, Ramayana will be released in two parts worldwide, with Part 1 arriving during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 scheduled for release during Diwali 2027.
