ITVX And The End of BritBox Everything You Need To know About

Nowadays, we have a multitude of options when it comes to streaming services. From Netflix to Prime Video, there is an abundance of TV shows and movies available at our convenience. It’s not surprising that ITV has joined the streaming market with their own service called ITVX. Apart from providing access to ITV shows and exclusive streaming content, starting from April 2024, ITVX will also include BritBox, which will expand the range of content available, including BBC boxsets.

Initially, BritBox was introduced as a collaborative effort between BBC and ITV. However, ITV eventually acquired BBC’s stake in BritBox. When ITVX was launched in 2022, the content from BritBox was transferred to ITVX Premium. Starting from April 30th, BritBox content will exclusively be accessible through ITVX or iPlayer. Consequently, the BritBox application on platforms such as Amazon Firestick, TV, or Smart TVs will cease to function.

What about my BritBox subscription?

If you are currently subscribed to BritBox, it is probable that you have already received communication from ITVX. All existing subscribers will be seamlessly transitioned to an ITVX Premium subscription, which will continue to be priced at £5.99 per month or £59.99 per year. This upgraded subscription will provide you with ad-free streaming.

For those who choose not to switch, any remaining BritBox subscriptions will be automatically canceled upon its closure. However, you will still have the option to watch ITVX content for free on your Smart TV, laptop, or other devices, albeit with advertisements.

What is ITVX?

In December 2022, ITV introduced its online platform, ITVX, with the aim of challenging established streaming giants like Disney+ and Netflix. As the streaming industry continues to evolve, ITVX has emerged as a strong competitor, offering not only BritBox content but also the ability to catch up on beloved TV shows and soap operas. Additionally, ITVX offers a diverse range of exclusive new shows that are not available on traditional television.

How to watch

To watch ITVX, you will need an internet connection like most streaming services. The simplest way to access it is through your laptop or tablet by visiting itv.com, where you can find all the latest shows. Alternatively, you can download the ITVX app for faster and more convenient access.

If you prefer to enjoy your favorite shows on a larger screen, such as a 50-inch or 60-inch TV, you have the option to stream ITVX on your smart TV. Simply select the ITVX icon from your home screen. In addition to streaming on your TV, you can also use gaming devices like Xbox, Huawei devices, Chromecast, Roku streaming players, NOW smart sticks or boxes, or Amazon Fire Stick to access ITVX.

It’s important to note that you should be able to use the aforementioned methods if your smart TV or device was manufactured after 2016. However, if your TV was made prior to 2016, the only way to access ITVX would be to use an additional device, such as a Firestick, for streaming.

How much does ITVX cost?

You have the option to stream ITVX for free with ads. However, if you would like to watch shows without ads and access a wider range of TV shows and content from Britbox, you can subscribe to the service for £5.99 per month or £59.99 per year.

What to watch on ITVX

ITVX has several exciting shows that are currently trending, which includes their adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, Sanditon, spanning over three series. Along with that, you can also enjoy watching Drama Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure, which is a great show to binge-watch. Additionally, you can catch up on popular shows like Broadchurch or Mr. Bates Vs the Post Office that you might have missed previously.

The popular family drama series, Riches, revolves around the Richards family and their lives after the death of their patriarch.
