The Eiffel Tower Catch Fire?
2 min readThere are multiple videos making the rounds on social media that purport to show the Eiffel Tower on fire. The Cube investigated these allegations in great detail.
Social media users started sharing images of what appears to be the famous Paris monument in fire.
In addition to receiving thousands of likes and comments, these pictures and videos have received millions of views, yet there’s more to them than meets the eye.
One particularly well-known video, which first appeared on TikTok and then on the X platform, appears to show the Eiffel Tower burning in the middle of the Paris cityscape while emergency service sirens are blaring.
At the time of this verification, the video had received around 7 million views. Many people had commented on it, raising doubts about its veracity and even asking about possible casualties.
But the real world is very different. Since the photos are fake, there haven’t been any deaths.
This can be confirmed by looking at the numerous web live streams of the Eiffel Tower, none of which show any fire or evidence of fire damage.
Furthermore, the official Eiffel Tower website has no information about this kind of occurrence. There have been no announcements, and business is conducting as usual.
Actually, the video was uploaded to YouTube in the previous year. Examining its title will reveal that “VFX” (Visual Effects) and “CGI” (Computer Generated Imagery) are attached to it.
Therefore, unlike what some may have you believe, this isn’t the serious issue that is depicted.
As a result of this film being widely shared under false pretenses, a lot of additional bogus photos have started to circulate.
In one such compilation, real footage from the 2019 devastating incident at Notre Dame Cathedral is mistakenly identified as being connected to an Eiffel Tower fire.
The video shows the cathedral’s spire catching fire and then collapsing as the fire spreads, destroying a large portion of the roof.
The movie then shows other false photos that purport to show the Eiffel Tower covered in smoke.
A miniature model is seen burning in one shot, and digitally altered images of the real building are shown in other images.
It’s important to highlight that all expected sources have remained silent on any possible fire event involving such a famous site.
Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, has said nothing, and the emergency services in Paris have not issued any statements.
On the other hand, the Notre Dame fire attracted a great deal of attention from the international press and was met with messages of solidarity from world leaders as well as notable French individuals.
There’s no need to worry—the Eiffel Tower is still standing tall.
