American Airlines simplifies pet travel policy, making it affordable and stress-free.
2 min readAmerican Airlines has updated its pet policy to allow for larger pet carry-ons. Passengers’ criticism, as brought to light by a travel blogger, was contrasted with the pet-friendly practices of other US airlines.
With the latest update of its pet policy, American Airlines now permits pet owners to bring both their furry companions and a full-size carry-on bag into the cabin! Pet owners had to pay an additional $150 (INR 12,507) for cabin admission in the past. The little object that fit under the seat was the only thing covered by this price. Passengers have to pay $35 (INR 2918) for any extra, larger luggage.
Passengers may now bring their pet into the cabin in addition to their standard carry-on luggage or another personal item, but not both, according the revised control.
Due to the fact that passengers were already paying a pet fee, the previous policy was unreasonable and created great inconvenience. Pet owners still had to pay an extra cost to have their pets allowed into the cottage, even with this fee in place. Effective as of Thursday, the new policy was implemented.
Travel blogger Gary Leff was the first to write about the new pet restriction, sharing stories of his previous trips with a Yorkshire terrier. He expressed his dissatisfaction by saying, “It was always frustrating that the dog counted as the carry-on even though I was paying the extra (pet) fee, which sometimes exceeded the cost of my ticket.”
He added that he believed the revised policy will lessen the temptation for travelers to falsely assert that their pet qualifies as a service animal and receives free airfare, enabling them to bring a carry-on bag as well.
Traveling with dogs undoubtedly requires careful preparation and study. There are a number of reasons why some breeds, like Fido or Felix, could not be allowed inside the cabin. The maximum number of pets that may be accommodated in each cabin, which varies based on the kind of aircraft, is a crucial factor to take into account.
Delta, American, Southwest, Alaska, and Frontier are among the notable US airlines permitting pets onboard.
